Background to Mindfulness-Based-Stress-Reduction (MBSR)
The practice of Mindfulness is two and a half thousand years old. It originated in Buddhism as a practical way to alleviate self induced suffering caused by the dysfunctional ways we tend to routinely deal with experience. In the late 70s, Jon Kabat-Zinn developed the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course by adapting this practice for a secular and scientific context. So, it is a totally practical course requiring no allegiance to any belief system. Vast scientific research shows huge benefits in a diversity of contexts, such as physical and mental health, business, education, sports etc.
