What Mindfulness Course should I do?

This is a question I am often asked by people choosing between different options.

I offer courses specifically created for a workplace setting as well as the standard Mindfulness and Compassion courses.


Specific Workplace Courses

1. Mindfulness at Work  Course

This Course is created specifically as an onsite training for key professionals at work. It follows the model of the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction program (below) with sequential modules all focusing on a specific topic. However, the format, structure, teaching methodology, guided practices and requirements are all  adapted to suit a workplace setting. Content from other world renowned teachers is also included: Thich Nhat Hanh, Mark Williams, Tara Brack, Sharon Salzberg, James Baraz, Eckhart Tolle, Kristen Neff, Chris Germer, Paul Gilbert to name a few.

Mindfulness Leadership Course

2. Mindful Leadership & Emotional Intelligence Course

is based on the latest research and includes Mindfulness, Emotional Intelligence, Neuroscience and Positive Psychology. Research has demonstrated that Mindfulness Training develops Emotional Intelligence skills which predict employee performance, leadership effectiveness and organisational wellbeing. The  latest in neuroscience shows that attention training can improve state of mind, habits of dealing and coping, emotional experiences, ability to self-regulate, quality of decisions, actions and outcomes. This training (which includes an optional Emotional Intelligence assessment and feedback) provides a sequential pathway towards developing the skills of trusted leadership.

Standard Mindfulness & Compassion Courses

3. 8 Week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction(MBSR / MBCT) course

–  explicitly trains Mindfulness

It is the standard mindfulness training, that is available widely. It brings together the fundamentals of the internationally recognised Mindfulness-Based-Stress-Reduction programme developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn and the Mindfulness-Based-Cognitive-Therapy programme later adapted by Williams and others. This is the course that is available widely, it’s the basis for much of the compelling research evidence and the course most people are doing. I would recommend it as a great place to start.

You will learn to:

  • Become more aware of how your mind works
  • Notice the times when you get lost in automatic pilot / thinking / old negative mood patterns
  • Practice a new way of being with experience
  • Become attuned to your body and aware of ‘triggers’
  • Be more accepting of yourself instead of wishing things were different, or driving yourself to meet impossible goals.
  • Wake up to life happening inside you and all around you, savouring moments instead of ‘being lost in thought’…
  • Let go of the struggle, resistance and cultivate attitudes of patience, trust, acceptance
  • See more options and choices throughout the day.

4.  8 Week Mindful Self Compassion (MSC) course

– explicitly trains the skills of self compassion.

The course combines the skills of mindfulness and self-compassion, providing a powerful tool for emotional resilience. Mindfulness is the first step in emotional healing—being able to turn toward and acknowledge our difficult thoughts and feelings (such as inadequacy, sadness, anger, confusion) with a spirit of openness and curiosity. Self-compassion involves responding to these difficult thoughts and feelings with kindness and understanding so that we soothe and comfort ourselves when we’re hurting. Research has shown that self-compassion greatly enhances emotional wellbeing. It boosts happiness, reduces anxiety and can even help maintain healthy lifestyle habits such as diet and exercise.

You will learn:

  • how to stop being so hard on yourself
  • how to handle difficult emotions with greater ease
  • how to motivate yourself with encouragement rather than criticism
  • how to transform difficult relationships, both old and new
  • mindfulness and self-compassion practices for home and everyday life
  • the theory and research behind mindful self-compassion
  • and how to become your own best teacher.
